In April 2026, Sächsische und Dresdner Back- und Süßwaren GmbH recalled 300g jars of its Nudossi hazelnut-nougat spread (a specific GTIN, best-before dates in August–September 2026) after internal quality control detected Salmonella, traced to a contaminated raw ingredient. The company’s own notice went through Germany’s official recall portal, lebensmittelwarnung.de, naming the exact product code and best-before window affected.

The Robert Koch Institute subsequently linked the product to a Salmonella Bochum outbreak — around 40 confirmed cases, concentrated heavily among children under 15, spread across several German states, with one death reported in a person over 60. The timeline matters here: internal QC caught the contamination and the company issued a public recall with a specific, traceable product identifier before the outbreak’s full scope was even established by public health authorities — which is close to the ideal sequence, not the failure mode this kind of story often represents.
